                            Corey Haim  (1971-2010)

Corey Haim, best known for his teen roles in the mid and late 80's, died today at the age of 38.

Most popular for staring in such films as Lucas and the Lost Boys Haim's career took a nose dive after developing an on-going struggle with drug addiction.

According to the Washington Post, Corey Haim died at 2:15 am at Joseph Medical Center in Burbank California.  There's no evidence of foul play but it's looking like an accidental overdose. He had battled cocaine and crack addiction throughout his (short) career before moving on to pharmaceuticals. He had previously admitted in interviews of taking nearly 85 Valiums a day mixed in with a cocktail of other barbiturates.

I've lost a few friends to their addictions and the 80's have lost a lot of it's childhood celebrities/musicians to drugs and 'accidental' overdoses. As much as he acted like a utter douchebag in the A & E short-lived 2007-8 reality show, The Two Corey's--it's sad to see him die at a young age.  Yeah, he did act like a douchebag because he was using and that's what drugs do; they make people act like douchebags.

Don't quote me but I heard on the radio his mom found him in a hotel room unresponsive? Yuck, why is it always the moms that find their children dead?! Jesus, what a nightmare.

**CORRECTION: (3-11-10) Corey Haim's mother was with him in his apartment when he started feeling faint. He had been experiencing flu-like symptoms prior to his death.
He was conscious when paramedics arrived at his apartment.**

I really don't mean this in a bad way (and, yes, some will take it wrong), but as an ex-addict myself, I always wondered if I had continued using and terrorizing my family with worry/fear for my safety or health and accomplished my unconscious effort in killing myself--would my family not only feel the pain of my death but relief as well? A sense of relief that I'd finally be at peace and safe so they wouldn't have to worry anymore?

It's hard on the families and friends of addicts to watch the people they love destroy themselves. It's hard being an addict, too.

Condolences to Corey's family and friends.
